HAWAR AMINI: Nishtiman

May 4, 2017 7pm

talk with the artist

Using black and white photographs as a base and artistically processing them is a technique that has repeatedly appeared in Hawar Amini’s works before, for example in his series about Kurdish people. In his actual series, he uses images and archival material and copies, alienates, and paints over them, while leaving the historical moments captured in the photos recognizable. His mixed-media paintings and videos convey these moments to the viewer’s mind, colourful and monotone at the same time, intense in their substance and beautiful in their visual presence.
